The application deadline is February 24 for projects beginning April 1 to September 30. Mini-grants fund up to $4,000 for locally developed, high-quality art projects that provide special opportunities to address local arts needs and increase public access to the arts. Mini-grants support a broad range of artistic expression from all cultures through projects that preserve, produce or present traditional or contemporary arts. The grants are a giving partnership financed by the City of Detroit Recreation Department Arts and Culture Section and the State of Michigan through the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs. Plymouth - Call for Art

CALL FOR ARTISTS The Plymouth Community Arts Council is inviting artists to submit art work based on musical themes for an exhibition planned for May 2010. The show is intended to celebrate the first anniversary of the Plymouth Canton Symphony Society's tenure at the PCAC Center for the Arts. Works will be accepted in all media except sculpture. There is no fee. Paintings must be framed and ready for hanging. Up to two works of reasonable size can be entered. Final selections will be made by the exhibition committee. The drop off day for exhibit consideration is Thursday, April 22 from 9 to 5. Any work that is not accepted can be picked up on Monday, April 26 from 9 to 5. The exhibition runs from April 26 through May 24. The Plymouth Community Arts Council is located at 774 N. Sheldon Rd. in Plymouth. Rochester Hills - Fine Art Night Opportunities

The concept of the Fine Arts Night is: - to expose students and their families to artists and performers processes and techniques. - to enhance the learning experience students have in their art and music classroom. - to encourage a strong connection between parents and their child’s school. The Fine Arts Night (F.A.N.) will be held Feb. 11th from 6-7:30 p.m. We are looking for musicians and artist to volunteer their time for the 1 1/2 program. Specifically, we'd like to bring a printmaker, paper making and glass torch artist into this event to discuss process, technique and medium. Students and their families can roam from room to room and meet the various artists to see a demo and possibly do a hands on activity related to what they've seen from the artist. Given the time frame it would be approx. 10 min. for each demo. As this is an evening geared for elementary students (K-5) and their families I am asking for participants that work well with kids. We would welcome any suggestions from Lawrence Street Gallery of artists that would be interested in participating. This event is being sponsored by the PTA, which is a non profit, and any contribution could be tax deductible. Thanks for your time, I look forward to hearing from you. Novi (and National) Call for Sculpture Art

Take a look at the following call for art. This is an organization that collects a database of sculpture art available for public exhibit. The city of Novi is currently raising money with a goal to bring in 15 sculptures from national and local artists. This will be a blind juried process, so the winning artists could come from any part of the country. All submissions will also be available for consideration with other communities listed at the web site.

At Let's Save Michigan, we're activating Michiganders to take grassroots action in their local communities to bring about the policies and legislation that will create vibrant cities and a more resilient economy. We believe you and your neighbors have the vision Michigan needs.
This is why we're excited to be partnering with the Detroit Institute of Art to present the Let's Save Michigan Poster Contest. We're calling all artists, illustrators, and graphic designers to create an original poster to inspire Michiganders to revive our state - and we need your help!
Do you know a Michigan artist whose work captures the spirit of our state and has a vision for a strong future for Michigan?

We're asking artists to share their creative vision of Michigan's future -- whether that's renovating historic homes, planting community gardens, expanding public transportation and bike lines, or public art. The possibilities are endless.

Now through February 15, participants can submit their entries online through our website. Judges will select 25 finalists whose work will be featured on the website, and visitors will be able to vote for their favorites.

The winner will be awarded $1,000 and the runner-up will receive $250. The remaining finalists will be eligible for other prizes.

“Art & Ideas” takes position that art will always transcend a “bad economy”
A new art gallery and teaching studio is holding its grand opening Dec. 5, 2009, in the midst of troubling economic times. Yet this has not deterred Art & Ideas Gallery and Studio’s director and owner, Mike Tolinski, and its artist-in-residence, teaching artist Shaqe Kalaj. The gallery, located just north of Plymouth’s Old Village, will be showcasing over 40 of Kalaj’s drawings at this first opening, which will be followed periodically by new openings and shows of Kalaj’s work throughout 2010.

At Art & Ideas we believe that art is a transformative agent that is needed in our society. It contributes to well-being and societal relationships in multiple ways through every stage of life. To this end, we offer workshops, classes, lectures, and events in the community to contribute to this social change.
