Northville - Buy Michigan Now Week
"Downtown Northville has announced it will partner with Buy Michigan Now to be the host location for “Buy Michigan Week” July 27-August 2. The week long festivities will include various Michigan entertainment, educational seminars and Michigan-made products.
Launched in 2007 by Lisa Diggs, Buy Michigan Now is a statewide initiative to inform, educate and encourage Michiganders, organizations and consumers alike, to support the local economy by purchasing products and services made in Michigan and from Michigan-based companies.
“The Buy Michigan Now campaign is about heightening awareness and revitalizing our state’s economy one product, one purchase, and one business at a time. We are very excited to be working with Northville to celebrate Buy Michigan Week. Their vibrant art, restaurant, and retail community is representative of great towns all over the state, and provides an ideal showcase for the bright spots in Michigan’s blossoming new economy,” said Lisa Diggs.
The Buy Michigan Now initiative is further enhanced by the official proclamation from Michigan Governor Jennifer M. Granholm stating that the week of July 27, 2009 is Buy Michigan Week in Michigan. In the proclamation, Governor Granholm states her support of the initiative “I encourage all residents of this state to take advantage of the many great products and services that the state of Michigan has to offer by buying Michigan first.”

Concert of Colors offering FREE BOOTHS to orgs who work with kids
The Concert of Colors, Metro Detroit's annual diversity festival, brings global artists and audiences from various racial, ethnic and cultural backgrounds together to showcase our diverse musical traditions.
The festival will take place on Saturday, July 18th, and Sunday, July 19th, 2009 at the Max M. Fisher Music Center located at 3711 Woodward Avenue in Detroit, Michigan. This year, the festival organizers are offering booth space free of charge (Concert of Colors outdoors exhibit area) to groups/organizations that will provide a free children’s activity to the public on both days.

On March 28, 2009, the University of Michigan Museum of Art (UMMA) opened a landmark 53,000-square-foot expansion and major restoration of its historic, 41,000-square-foot home, Alumni Memorial Hall. Designed by principal architect Brad Cloepfil and his team at Allied Works Architecture, the $41.9 million transformation not only more than doubles the space available for collections display, temporary exhibitions, programs and educational exploration, but also fulfills the Museum’s mission to bridge visual art and contemporary culture, scholarship and accessibility, tradition and innovation.

Each year Gifts of Art presents an exhibition of the artwork of University of Michigan Health System employees and volunteers. This eagerly anticipated event showcases the exceptional talent and creativity of our staff. It is our pleasure to display the artistic accomplishments of our UMHS family.
This year's exhibition will be juried by Katherine Talcott, fresh from curating the Three Rivers Arts Festival (Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh), and now serving as the administrator for the Ann Arbor Public Art Commission. There will be prizes and ribbon awards for "Best in Category" and "Best in Show." A "People's Choice" award will be determined by the votes of visitors to the exhibit.
The Employee Art Exhibition will be on display June 22-August 17, 2009 in the Taubman Health Center Lobby, South Gallery, Level 1. Art submissions will be accepted June 8-12. Please fill out the form available at the link above – instructions are included.A reception honoring employee artists and their guests will be held on Tuesday, July 14, 2009 from 11:45 a.m.-1:00 p.m. in the gallery. Royal Oak Memorial Park, Corner of Woodward Ave and 13 Mile Road in Royal Oak
This is a juried fine art show sponsored by the Royal Oak Arts Council and Royal Oak Recreation. For more information please call 248.246.3180. Each year, artist applications will be available mid-January. All applications are due back in our office March 1. The show is set amoung the beautiful trees of Memorial Park and offers a unique blend of fine art and fine crafts. The show attracts artists from across the country and has national ranking as one of the top fairs in the United States. Artwork will be for sale in many categories including: drawing, painting, photography, clay, collage, glass, metal, wood, jewelry, leather/fiber, and mixed media. The Art Fair offers an excellent opportunity to purchase an original item for your home, office or as a gift. Food concessions will be on site for lunch and dinner. No dogs allowed in the Park.

Olde World Canterbury Village is a 19th century village and designated historical landmark; it is host to 18 specialty shops and wonderful features including Aldridge’s Always Christmas shop & carousel, Canterbury Toy World, The Celtic Connection, Village Quilt shop, Canterbury Fudge Shoppe.
Restaurants include Kings Court Castle Restaurant or the Clansman Gaelic Pub. There’s something for everyone. More info at www.CanterburyVillage.com. Approximately 125 high quality juried artists from around the world will participate. There are all mediums of art work including paintings, clay, glass, fiber, wood, jewelry, sculpture, photography and more. In addition to the great art work, there are live art demonstrations happening throughout the event, free entertainment, great food and Tween Art Competition for kids ages 13-19 which allows them to enter their art work to be publicly displayed and chance to win a cash prize. There is free admission and free parking.

On Wed., July 8, the Northville Art House opens it doors to Artists who are interested in drawing or painting 2 models Plein Air. The Northville Art House is located at 215 W. Cady, 48167 from 9-4.
